CASE STUDY

Turning Critical Illness Research Into an Appropriate Protection Strategy

< Back to case studies

The Situation

The spouse of an existing client approached our Private Client Insurance team after researching critical illness cover independently.

The client understood the broad purpose of the product but remained uncertain about two important questions: how much cover would be appropriate and which provider should be selected.

The Challenge

Choosing critical illness protection involves more than comparing monthly premiums.

The amount of cover needed to reflect the financial impact the client wanted to protect against, while differences between providers, policy definitions and contract features also needed to be considered.

The recommendation therefore needed to balance the client’s objectives, budget and desired level of financial protection.

The Solution

We discussed a range of protection options and completed a comprehensive market review.

The advice considered the level of financial support the client wanted to have available following a serious illness, alongside the premiums they were comfortable maintaining.

Provider selection was also an important part of the recommendation. We explained the relevant features of the selected contract and why it was considered appropriate for the client’s circumstances and objectives.

The Henry Dannell Difference

Appropriate critical illness protection is not simply about selecting the lowest premium or the highest sum assured.

The value lies in connecting the cover to the financial consequence the client wants to manage.

In this case, critical illness cover was arranged to provide a capital lump sum equivalent to several years of salary following a qualifying claim. The intention was to create greater financial flexibility at a difficult time and reduce the pressure to make immediate financial decisions while focusing on recovery.

Protection policies are subject to eligibility, underwriting, exclusions and policy terms. Critical illness claims are only payable where the condition meets the relevant policy definition.
